All guests (riders and auditors) will be staying in the beautiful Dunn Rite Ranch Bunkhouse at Dunn Rite Ranch.  Some of the best takeaways from gatherings in the bunkhouse, are the relationships and conversations had during dinner and down time.  Learning, fun and fellowship happen all weekend long.  Bunk rooms sleep 18 people with plenty of private bathrooms for everyone.  Guests will enjoy healthy meals all weekend.  Carter Forbush, Dunn Rite Ranch’s wonderful chef will cook our dinners.

Julie Alonzo, our presenter is one of the founders of USAWE, the nonprofit national governing body for the sport of Working Equitation and is active in helping to promote Working Equitation throughout the United States, actively competing in the sport with her Andalusians. One of her home-bred horses, CDC Memoria, was the IALHA 2014 and 2016 Working Equitation Reserve National Champion at the novice level.  In 2015, Julie and CDC Memoria were #1 in the National Standings for Novice Level Horse/Rider pair. Another home-bred horse, CDC Luna, took home $3500 in prize money for her fourth-place win at the All-Breed WE Haras Cup competition in a very high-quality class of 21.

Caballos del Corazón is owned and operated by Julie Alonzo, a long-time aficionado of the Andalusian horse, who has been active in the International Andalusian and Lusitano Horse Association (IALHA) since 1996 and was elected to the Board of Directors in 2006 and the Presidency in 2008, an office she held continuously through 2014.

What is Working Equitation? There are four phases of equitation.

  1. Dressage is performed in a 20 x 40 meter “short court”.
  2. Ease of Handling through obstacles in a course arena.
  3. Speed Trial navigates obstacles with accuracy as quickly as possible.
  4. Cow sorting (optional)

Each movement and obstacle is judged and scored on a scale of 0-10 with Collective Marks on gaits, impulsion, submission and rider presentation.  Any breed.  Any attire.  Any saddle.

ARE YOU READY TO TRY A NEW SPORT IN YOUR HORSE LIFE?!

Working Equitation as an American sport is just getting started.  USAWE was formed in 2020, when USAWE and the Confederation for Working Equitation consolidated into a single national organization. The decision to merge into USAWE was unanimously supported by the Boards of both prior WE organizations.
